Club History

We are 35 this year!!

On 14th February 1989, Jane O’Brien from the Redcliffe Club chartered our Club.   We retain one charter member and st least 5 members have over 20 years of continuous service.

Our Service projects have included:

  • RISE Project (Restart in a Safe Environment) and RISE 2-providing safe short term housing for families affected by domestic abuse- commenced with fundraising for the first two properties ($90,000 in 90 days) , and now with an expansion throughout the region.

  • Breast Cushions- for people post breast cancer surgery- we fund and make these items with over 200 cushions being delivered each year.

  • Birthing Kits- supporting mothers to give birth safely in third world countries

  • Mentoring of young people through Z clubs in Sunshine coast schools

  • Diaries to clients at Iluka Centre at Christmas time

  • Support for the Better Together Housing project- providing options for single women to meet and discuss potential shared  housing

  • Fundraising events for International Women's Day

  • Shoeboxes of Love to women in rural and remote locations.

 

Our bursaries include 

  • Amelia Earhart Award – to support tertiary study in Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics 

  • Equity Bursary for a student at University of the Sunshine Coast

  • Joan Ford/Judy Henzell Business Bursary-   to support women in tertiary education at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Governance

Each year a Nominations committee convenes to recommend office bearers to the membership.  They are inducted at the Annual General Meeting.

In June 2024, the international meeting or Congress is being held in Brisbane.
